A Home for the Holidays: Memorial Weekend 2011

Ceasarstone looks wonderful on the countertops.

Although quite bare, The Great Room is still very inviting and ready for holiday guests.

Missing  In Action. Dining table and chairs can't stop the celebration.

Homeowner is in Heaven. She is so amazed at the outstanding view.

Breakfast will be served on Sunday.

The  invitation to a modern family lodge in the mountains can  be very welcoming.  With the upcoming Memorial day holiday,My client really wanted to give her delightful family a preview of their extended family retreat in the beautiful high mountain country in Northern California. Although not complete. The modern family lodge was ready to move in at least for the holiday weekend. Earlier the upholstered pieces were in the warehouse in Portland, Oregon. The dining chairs have been slightly delayed.the dining table is being refinished. The beautiful Donghia chair will be socially late for this weekend of family fun.  The king size box spring was not ordered. The pale grey canvas Roman shades go up in the bedrooms next week.  The Indonesian bench found its way in the hall  near the door of the bunk house. The whimsical pony hide stools are sitting at the desk in the library. The pendleton blankets(modern solid wool ) carefully rest on the the other beds awaiting the guests that will be arriving shortly for a good old fashion back yard barbecue. What a back yard! filled with teak outdoor furniture.
Here are a few photos of the Great room. It will be exciting to see it come together even more. It is just the right amount of a subtle hint to the lodge yet it it modern, the architecture, the furniture, the outdoors are in a quiet harmonious symphony.

Family heirloom area rug finds a new home in the Lodge.
Soon, the cheerful chatter and laughter will fill this space as another  guest arrives this weekend. The jobsite became a lodge. This lodge is becoming a home.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend where ever you may spend it with your family.

sincerely,

recent departures become new arrivals

Earlier this week, I made the final inspection of the custom furniture being shipped by truck to the Modern Mountain Lodge. It was beyond cozy. The antique Indonesian teak bench that has been sitting in my living room for months is now being safely put into a van that will be delivered to  the trucking company that will deliver and install this beautiful furniture in its new home. I sent photos via text to my client. She had only seen being built. She called immediately. She was exceedingly happy.Soon She and her family will be able to enjoy its beauty and comfort.  It was a joy to know that this was finally on its way. Now the wait begins, the calls for tracking numbers, the anticipation, the anxiety, the excitement. then finally all of this will come to rest in its peaceful setting.
from the drawing board

the details are made.

Handsome hand stitched waxed thread on the back side

of a modern gentleman's lounge chair.

Once forgotten

a dream

becomes a new vision.Pony hide on stools become the seat of knowledge. Can you see the vision of grandchildren colouring in books and learning to read in  the library? Can you imagine sitting on the bench putting on your snow boots this Winter?

A Place where new dreams are made

in a modern lodge in the mountains.
It has been almost a year in the making, years in the planning. the dream became a vision. The vision became of goal. the goal has become the success of a design project that has gone well. A little bit of creativity and the dream becomes a reality. Soon a house will become a home and a home with be filled with family and a family will share their dreams.

sincerely,
john

The Family Lodge: The Countdown Begins

The snows have finally receded. The final touches are being implemented.  The furniture is finished and waiting to ship to the mountains. The last of the pillows are being made for the beds. I am reposting this blog since this blog was erased for some reason.  Soon the home owner will be able to relax after a wonderful day hiking in the mountains or feasting on fabulous food. Until that glass of wine in a relaxing tub of hot water will have to wait. The inspection will be soon. it is all happening quickly.

sincerely,

john
