The Redd Review

Reared in Atlanta, Redd arrived in New York to attend NYU, where he majored in film. After graduating, he worked for uptown antiques maestro John Rosselli before taking a job with Rosselli's wife, noted interior designer Bunny Williams. After spending five years at Bunny Williams Inc., Redd went off on his own in 1999, founding Miles Redd LLC and earning acclaim for his ornate, 1930s Hollywood aesthetic.

Over the past few years, he's worked on socialite Allison Sarofim's townhouse in the Village, novelist Tom Dolby's West Village pad, and a duplex for former New York editor Shyama Patel and her financier husband, Nick Brumm. In 2003, Redd was tapped to serve as creative director of Oscar de la Renta Home, a partnership between the famed designer and Century Furnishings. Many of the items in the collection are reproductions of furniture found in de la Renta's homes in New York, Connecticut and the Dominican Republic, but Redd has also designed a number of pieces himself in collaboration with de la Renta.

the mean reds

Today is such a rainy day. I thought we all needed some vivid colour today. be of good cheer.

the best recipe for success is all about the mix.

The following is the inspiration for a new design project. The eclectic mix of patterns and styles should be combined in a unifying theme. I have used colour and shapes to mix asian bronzes with art deco,Mid century gilded game chairs with beidermier tables, expensive wholesale with the inexpensive retail. Good design is a mix of all of these elements.The selection of the items that you choose depend on the size and how the furniture is being used. If it is done correctly the visual layers should express your lifestyle and bring a sense of warmth to your home. No one would ever no which piece came from a designer showroom or a thrift store.It should never appear overwhelming. It is a collection that seems to have been collected over time. It should never look like you got it all from the same store or that you ripped the look right out of a magazine. What is creative about that. I don't like to follow trends. I beleive my unique style is rare. I am inspired by others but i never copy. what is the fun of that. If you are going to hire an interior designer why would you want your home to look like your neighbours. Remember to use existing pieces that you love, family heirlooms etc.

how many designers does it take to turn on a light fixture?

This morning I had written this wonderful blog. it had great pictures. when I had completed it I pressed "save" and was going to publish it. Well it wasn't the save key and I erased the whole blog. This is what happens when being a dumb blonde doesn't come in handy. So when I get home from my office this evening I will download the photos.
The other day I showed photos of light fixtures that really looked great that one can purchase from target on line.
www.1stdibs.com have some great table lamps that you can buy. I hope that you enjoy them. I promise next time I will have my morning latte before I write another blog.

It would be just like me not to give the answer to the question. It wouldn't take any designers to turn on a light fixture that is why you hire an electrical expert. OK, I never said I was a comedian. I also know how to turn on a lamp too! I am not a prima donna( that's questionable) But I am a fabulous interior designer. I also have a quirkey sense of humour and can make fun of myself.
