A BRAND NEW START!

Today is the best day to create your vision for your new space. Starting out with a plan is the first thing you should do. Take an inventory of what you have for your home. Do you need a sofa? chairs? pillows? artwork? Are you going to paint? Lighting is important as well.Do you need more light fixtures? WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET? Will you be hiring an interior designer? or do it yourself? What is your lifestyle? Do you entertain? Single? Married? Children? pets?
For myself, I wanted a home that was simplistic, easy to clean. As a single father, I need a home that my son would feel comfortable and relaxed. So I wanted it to be casual yet stylish. I love to entertain small groups of friends. So I wanted to create a warm , friendly environment to have friends over.
Today! is the best day. It is a day that you can go forth with your vision. Take your time. There is no rush to have it perfect. just relax and breathe deep and know that you have a chance for a brand new start.

happily yours,
john

FURNITURE ADVICE

Today, I left my dry witt at home. I have no true advice about furniture this afternoon other than some photos of different items that I found on the internet. I think I must be coming off the sugar high that I had from last night after I ate an entire row of oreo cookies and a bowl of ice cream. I never eat stuff like that. I prefer hard candy or spicy gumdrops.
I have actually been very busy, taking on new design projects, getting my yard ready for spring. My social life on the weekends have also kept me very busy. So as to my blog, I have been considering taking a vacation. However not entirely, I will continue to show beautiful things. I will get through this slump and be back on track soon.
sincerely,
john

inspiration for the day!

This exciting antique Art Deco carpet from France has a dynamic design of light on dark triangles radiating outward from the center of the composition. The scale a placement of the triangles creates the illusion of overlapping zones almost reminiscent of hills in a landscape, teasing the boundary between abstraction and representation in true modernist style.(www.decorati.com)

black and white (high contrast, high drama)

The use of black and white photography is my inspiration for today. I love the emotional responses that it evokes.
Different colors evoke different reactions in viewers. Be aware that some of these reactions will be culturally specific. For example, in the U.S., brides often wear white as a symbol of purity and widows wear black as a symbol of mourning. However, in many Asian cultures, brides wear black. The following is a guide as to the possible meaning of colors.

Red - danger, stop, negative, excitement, hot
Dark Blue - stable, calming, trustworthy, mature
Light Blue - youthful, masculine, cool
Green - growth, positive, organic, go, comforting
White - pure, clean, honest
Black - serious, heavy, death
Gray - integrity, neutral, cool, mature
Brown - wholesome, organic, unpretentious
Yellow - emotional, positive, caution
Gold - conservative, stable, elegant
Orange - emotional, positive, organic
Purple - youthful, contemporary, royal
Pink - youthful, feminine, warm
Pastels - youthful, soft, feminine, sensitive
Metallic - elegant, lasting, wealthy

Earlier today, I posted an article about the hot colour (TURQUOISE) for 2010.
I thought I would inspire you all with images.
Oh! how I do like to toy with the mind.

take care, john
